The garage is an escape, a bastion from all workaday things that grind you down. Consequentially, you shouldn't be stressed out in it, regardless of the noise you plan on making or the dust being kicked up. Today's handyman, gardener, athlete, and mechanic all want to get their hands dirty in an efficient, orderly fashion.

For the Athlete
Many garage organizers offer a versatile concept that is basically a rail organizer for hanging nearly everything. The track snugly accepts "J"- and "L"-style hooks, mesh baskets, garage shelving, and entire metal cabinets that are supported off the floor. Problems resulting from gear-heavy athletics like snow skiing and hockey can be quickly resolved by employing these types of storage racks. Obviously, sports equipment racks are also great for sports such as baseball, basketball, and golf, creating room for unwieldy items to be stored away without effort.
For the Gardener
While a wall panel with panel track hooks can certainly be used for the gardener, you may want to explore more compact and inexpensive options for gardening equipment. Full-height garage storage cabinets made from rugged steel will keep your assorted shovels and hoes in place. And many models are made with casters to allow for easy reorganization, an option not included if you use wall panels. And for your plentiful pots, soils, and seeds, you may want a wide system of garage shelves rather than closed garage cabinets. This makes it easier to assess inventory and conceive new gardening ideas.

For the Mechanic
Perhaps the most important thing in designing a garage for yourself, as a mechanic, is a heavy-duty workbench. Many workbenches are designed for general use with gardening or garage storage cannot withstand the torque required to manipulate automotive parts. And if you plan on doing anything seriously heavy-duty, you'll want a rugged table that is about 8 feet in length. Wall panels and closed garage cabinets, of course, will work great for you, but your primary investment should be in a workbench.
For the Handyman
A real handyman has to overcome a bit of pride to purchase garage organizers. After all, can't they be built from scratch? Fair enough, but before you go to the hardware store for your pegboard and pallet of pine, contemplate the time you'll save by purchasing quality manufactured garage cabinets and garage shelves. You'll need a tool cabinet - you already know that, but are you clever enough to design a table that will hold over 1,000 pounds? Better to draw up a budget for your garage and focus on more interesting crafts to build.
