Garage Organizing Tips: How to Eliminate Clutter

It takes a considerable amount of discipline to maintain an orderly garage. If you are one of the few who does it with ease, please stop reading: you can learn nothing here. Otherwise, pay attention and you may see opportunity where you saw only a hopeless disaster zone.

Step 1: Triage Assuming you have at least one day off work, this is a job that can be finished in a single go. On your calendar, mark the next day off as occupied. Wake up in the morning and begin the first of three steps. Thankfully, they rhyme so you won't forget. Excavation begins with clearing a large swath of real estate somewhere close to the epicenter of your mess. Via boxes or basic landmarks in the ground, demarcate three zones: "keep, pitch, and consider." Then, since nothing has a "place" in your newly organized garage yet, start placing everything in one of the three piles.

Consideration comes next. Take a good look at the "consider" pile and move things to one of the other piles. The only rule here is that you be resolute. It is difficult, so draw a metaphoric line. Once it has been placed in the pitch pile, it's trash, as long as you've asked your wife.
